| for Freckles, Age Spots and Pigmented Lesions
Photo rejuvenation is a series of gentle laser treatments that improve the texture,
decrease redness and broken capillaries, correct dark circles around the
eyes and lighten dark spots on the skin. Clients have also noticed that their
pores are tighter and fine lines dissipate after treatment.
Males or females, from ages 12 and up, with conditions such as broken capillaries,
flushed appearance, brown spots, enlarged pores, mild wrinkling, rosacea,
freckles and hyper pigmentation can have this treatment done.
Pigmented lesions are dark in color simply because melanin is abnormally
concentrated in one area of the skin. Melanin is what gives our skin its color;
the more melanin in your skin, the darker your skin will be. Some types are
present at birth, but most occur with age or as a result of overexposure to the
sun’s damaging rays. Most brown birthmarks will fade with treatment but some
recur. These may require additional treatments to keep pigmentation at bay.
Lentigines or age spots are premature ageing brown marks that look like freckles.
They can appear on sun-exposed areas of the skin, for example, backs of
hands and the face. Most of these spots are harmless, but they all make the
skin appear aged and somewhat unattractive. Brown age spots often fade or
disappear with a single treatment.
Cafe au lait, Nevus of Ota, Mongolian spots and other flat-pigmented birthmarks
are areas of increased pigmentation, which are present at birth. |

| Treatment |
|
| Photo rejuvenation uses energy from the IPL 560 laser. Laser energy penetrates
without damaging the superficial layers of the skin. Cells containing
excessive concentration of pigment absorb this energy. Think of how black
light absorbs heat very well and white light reflects it. This absorbed energy
stimulates your body to disintegrate and eliminate the unwanted excessive
pigment while having little or no effect on other tissues or on your normal skin
color.
Treatments usually range from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size and
number of the pigmented lesions. |

|
| After Treatment |
|
| For the first half-hour to one hour after laser treatment, the treated area looks
pale or white, may swell slightly and may feel hot. Some clients might be red
and slightly swollen for the rest of the day. In areas that are very dark, there
may be pinpoint bleeding for a few hours and a bit of superficial bruising under
the pigmented blemishes. Over the next few days, slight superficial blisters or
crusting may develop in the areas, which resolves in about 7 days depending
on the type, size and shade of the treated area, the skin usually returns to
normal in about 7 to 10 days. Clients with sun damage, depending on the
severity, may remain somewhat pink and experience mild flaking and peeling
for one to four weeks. Brown blemishes usually appear darker for a few days
before fading in colour. |

- Avoid using skin irritants, Retin-A, Benzyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, and astringents on the treated areas. Chemical peels are not recommended throughout treatment series.
- Don't tan after treatment. Tanning after treatment may cause hyperpigmentation.
- Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream to the treated area every 12 hours for the first 48 hours.
- If scabs appear after blistering, they should be kept soft with a lubricating cream. Blistered or ulcerated skin may be treated with an antibiotic ointment or burn treatment cream.
- If crusting occurs, avoid picking at it. Picking can cause scarring. Once the scab falls off, the skin may be lighter, or darker. This usually resolves over a few months. There will be an obvious color difference from the unburned skin.
- Fillers or other injectables should not be done within 2 weeks before/after treatment, or at the discretion of physician.
