The Dermamelan depigmentation program is intended to eliminate pigmented blemishes on the face. The mechanism of the action of the Dermamelan program is based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. Several of the substances present in the Dermamelan formulation act by blocking this enzyme, or even by inverting the metabolic process of the transformation chain.
The Dermamelan depigmentation program begins with an office treatment. During the office treatment Dermamelan 1 cream is applied by the technician. The mask will be visible on the face as it is the basis of the Dermamelan program.
The mask must remain on the face for 10-12 hours, as indicated by the technician. The activation time will range 5 to 12 hours.
The Dermamelan depigmentation program involves a strict home regime that must be followed. The program cannot be interrupted under any circumstances during the time prescribed.
It is not recommended that the Dermamelan treatment be used while going through any other treatments or any other depigmentation treatments. This would include peel treatments of any kind. Failure to comply may result in the appearance of undesirable results.
During the first two days of treatment, and in the case of especially sensitive skin, the skin may turn reddish color. In addition, a sensation of heat and tightness of the face can be observed. This is perfectly normal and must not lead to any modification of the home care guidelines.
Follow up treatments would be on day 21 and day 42.
Dermamelan: Pre and Post Treatment Instructions
PRE TREATMENT
It is important that you be well hydrated prior to your treatment.
Avoid constant sun exposure and sun beds for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment and wear sun block.
POST TREATMENT
The Dermamelan® de-pigmentation treatment initiated at the Clinic must be continued at home on a daily basis, according to the guidelines indicated. It is completely forbidden to combine the Dermamelan® treatment with other treatments, as the appearance of undesired effects cannot be guaranteed.
Control visits are recommended on day 21 and day 42.
The time required for the mask to act completely depends on the type of skin and is estimated by:
- Photo type I and II: 8 Hours
- Photo type III and IV: 10 Hours
- Photo type V and VI: 12 Hours
Once the mask has been acting for the required period of time, wash the area with a gentle cleanser and water to completely remove the mask. The de-pigmenting treatment is then followed by treatment with Dermamelan® Treatment cream. This guarantees the permanence of the initial de-pigmenting treatment, favoring the disappearance of blemishes of melanic origin. It also regulates sebaceous secretion and is specially indicated for treating mixed and oily skins.
- Apply Dermamelan® Treatment cream to the area of skin that was treated, three times a day during the first month.
- Apply Dermamelan® Treatment cream to the area of skin that was treated, two times a day during the second month.
- Apply Dermamelan® Treatment cream to the area of skin that was treated once per day during the third month.
- Apply Dermamelan® Treatment cream to the area of skin that was treated twice per week therafter.
15 minutes after each application of Dermamelan® Treatment cream the patient is recommended to apply Mesoestetic® Hydra Vital Factor K cream on top of the Dermamelan® Treatment cream. An additional sunscreen is also highly recommended to be used everyday for added protection.
During the first two days the skin may become red, itchy and sensitive. To relieve the problem, it is advisable to re-apply Hydra Vital Factor K cream whenever necessary.
During the second and third day, flaking may occur. It is advisable to re-apply Hydra Vital Factor K cream. It is crucial that the patient refrain from physically peeling off any loose skin, as this may cause a scar.
After the third or fourth day, the skin appears healthy and luminous and the marks begin to fade. All these characteristics are part of the exfoliation process and may sometimes be uncomfortable; however, they are all symptoms of a good prognosis.
It is also recommended to increase the daily intake of water to 1.5L per day. Patient compliance is crucial for optimum results.
