DIY face masks are a quick and simple way to treat yourself and pass the time. They can also be made with ingredients you probably already have in the kitchen or bathroom at home. At at time like this when running to the store or a medspa in Toronto just isn't an option, it's nice to know you can still do something nice for yourself and keep your skin glowing.

Green Tea Turmeric Honey Mask

Turmeric is well-known for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties and honey has been found to be antibacterial. Green tea is an antioxidant, which is always beneficial for skin. Together, these are acne-fighting ingredients.

1. Brew a cup of green tea. Let the tea steep for about 4 minutes until it is strong and dark.
2. Add 1/2 tsp of the green tea to 1 tsp of turmeric powder.
3. Mix in 1/2 tsp of honey.
4. Stir until the ingredients are thoroughly mixed and form a thick paste. If it is too dry, add green tea in 1/4 tsp-increments.
5. Apply to clean, damp skin and let sit for about 15 minutes. Gently remove with a wash cloth and rinse with warm water.

Turmeric can temporarily stain skin a yellow colour, so make sure to do the mask at night to let the colour lighten.

Brightening Coffee and Oatmeal Mask
Coffee grounds can be great for exfoliation and the caffeine can brighten skin. Oatmeal has been used for a long time to treat skin conditions like eczema, so it can be calming and soothing on irritated skin.

1. Soak 2 tbsp old fashioned oats in 1 tbsp warm water for 1-2 minutes.
2. Combine oats and 1 tbsp of coffee grounds in a bowl. Add more water as needed to make a thick paste.
3. Spread the mixture on a clean face and very gently scrub in circular motions with the tips of your fingers. Let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse to reveal refreshed, bright skin.

Aloe Vera and Vitamin E
Both vitamin E and aloe are known to be hydrating for the skin. There is also some evidence that suggests these ingredients can help fade acne scars and dark spots. If you don't have these ingredients laying around at home, order them online.

1. Add 1 tbsp of pure aloe gel (store-bought or from a plant) to a bowl.
2. Add 4 drops of pure vitamin E oil to the aloe and stir well.
3. Refrigerate for a few minutes for a cooling effect or simply apply the mask to a clean face.
