Summer might be great for parties and activities, but it's not necessarily so great for your skin. Don't let summer take a toll on your complexion. Here are our five tips on how you can protect your skin this summer.

Consider Sunscreen To Be Non-Negotiable
For many people, sunscreen is only applied for trips to the beach or jogs outdoors. However, the sun doesn't care that you're just shopping or walking the dog. Recognize that any time spent outdoors puts you at risk for damage. Apply sunscreen before every trip outdoors, not just before specific activities.

Reapply Sunscreen Liberally
Sunscreen only has a window of three to four hours of effectiveness. If you want it to keep working for you, you should consistently reapply it.

Learn To Love Fake-Bake
Tanning is like the fast food of skincare; it might make you feel good in the moment, but it's not worth how terrible you'll feel afterwards. While that bronzed glow might look good for a few months, it can cause years of wrinkles, sun spots, fine lines and other signs of premature aging. If you want to be bronze, opt for self-tanning products that help you to get the glow without the damage.

Hats and Cover-Ups Are Your Friends
Yes, we all want to show off our beach bodies, especially if we've worked hard for them. However, spending an extended amount of time outdoors in the summer with exposed skin forces your sunscreen to work overtime. For extra protection, use hats and swimsuit cover-ups.

Don't Skimp On The Moisturizer
A lot of people assume that once the dry winter season has passed that their skin doesn't need as much moisture. Just because you might feel a little oilier doesn't mean that your skin still doesn't need hydration, which is important in keeping the skin healthy. For summertime moisturizing, put away that thick night cream and instead opt for a lighter product, such as a gel or lotion moisturizer.
